Commercial Communication Guidelines

The Welcome Center Region Greifswald and the Welcome Center Stettiner Haff adhere to the fundamental rules for commercial communication as outlined by the German Advertising Council. These rules are as follows:

Fundamental Rules for Commercial Communication

Advertising in Germany is subject to both legal requirements and voluntary restrictions established by the business community. Given the numerous existing and emerging methods of advertising, and the constantly changing social realities, it is not always possible to address every potential violation of these fundamental rules with specific codes of conduct for every individual situation.

Commercial communication must respect the universally accepted core values of society and the prevailing standards of decency and morality. It must always be characterized by fairness in competition and a sense of responsibility toward society. In particular, advertising must not:

  • Exploit the trust of consumers or take advantage of their lack of experience or knowledge
  • Cause physical or psychological harm to children and adolescents
  • Encourage or tacitly tolerate any form of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation, or reduce individuals to sexual objects
  • Promote or tacitly tolerate any form of violent, aggressive, or antisocial behavior
  • Generate fear or exploit misfortune and suffering
  • Encourage or tacitly tolerate behaviors that endanger consumer safety
